Here in the Northern Rockies, Prairies, and Pacific region, we have a long history of successfully protecting western landscapes and wildlife by advocating for wildlife habitat as an important use of western public lands. Whenever issues impact the wildlife and the landscapes of the West, we work with our affiliates and partners to find a sound, common-sense solution that represents the voices and views of the National Wildlife Federation's members and supporters and that benefits both wildlife and the land. Working with Beavers

Beavers are an integral component of healthy riparian ecosystems. The National Wildlife Federation is working to bring beavers back to the landscape and to educate people on the many benefits of beaver restoration.

Bison: Bring Them Back

Saving bison from extinction was one of America’s earliest conservation successes, but we only saved the animal - not its ecological function. Our goal is to restore wild bison to native prairie habitat across millions of acres of public land in north-central Montana.

Snake River Salmon

Restoring the Snake River is critical to protect its salmon and steelhead from extinction and rebuild the irreplaceable benefits they deliver to the people of our region and nation.

Wildlife Conflict Resolution

Conflicts between livestock and wildlife on public lands have been ongoing for several decades. We work with federal land managers and livestock producers to retire grazing allotments in areas of high conflict.

Wildlife Connectivity

Wildlife rely on secure habitat and the ability to move—sometimes over great distances—to maintain robust populations through increased reproduction and survival rates. Movements occur on both daily and seasonal basis and understanding movements and their impediments are essential in maintaining landscape connectivity.
